Dance Theatre of Harlem Eminent Artist-in-Residence Program
Fall, 2017
During my 2016-2017 sabbatical in NYC, I was in a unique position to conceive and coordinate the multiple aspects and possibilities for an extended residency with Dance Theatre of Harlem through the University of Wyoming’s Eminent Artists-in-Residence Program to take place over eight weeks, Fall
semester 2017.
Inspired by the Dance Theatre of Harlem’s history, raison d’être, and unique artistic journey to its
current status as a company of international acclaim, the Department of Theatre and Dance was thrilled
to host DTH in events including:
Two weeks of DTH in-residence at UW; twenty-six classes/rehearsals with UW students
DTH Gala Concert featuring world premiere of Darrell Grand Moultrie’s Harlem on My Mind
with credit to the University of Wyoming in all future performances
Six weeks of DTH extended residency with former principal dancers Charmaine Hunter and Tai
Jimenez; 45 workshops/lectures and outreach; DTH rep and original work staged on UW dancers
DTH lecture-demonstration for audience of 1800 elementary students, A&S Auditorium
Dancing in the Streets, "jam session" with DTH, UW students and public
Open panel, Meet the DTH Dancers
Fall for Dance concert featuring UW dancers in DTH works, UW Main Stage season
